• Project team breaks ground on $150.3M refurbishment of heritage-listed Perth Concert Hall
  • Project funding includes $4M from the City of Perth
  • One of 14 projects underway as part of the $1.7B Perth City Deal funded by three tiers of Government

The existing building first opened in 1973, having been the first concert hall to be built in Australia after World War II. The new works have been carefully considered to preserve the venue’s distinctive features and internationally renowned acoustics, ensuring the building can continue to cater for world-class productions for generations to come.

The revitalisation of this key cultural arts performance venue is one of 14 projects being delivered under the landmark $1.7 billion Perth City Deal partnership which is jointly funded by the Australian Government, WA Government and the City of Perth.

Funding for the Perth Concert Hall works includes $134.3 million from the WA Government, $12 million from the Australian Government, and $4 million from the City of Perth.

It will deliver a range of improvements to the venue, including:

  • New rehearsal and events spaces
  • Improved entrances, with redesigned and landscaped forecourts to the southern and northern sides of the building
  • Improved venue accessibility, including a remodelled auditorium entry
  • Updated seating, lighting and backstage facilities

The venue will remain closed during the period of works, scheduled to reopen in early 2028. The revitalised venue will provide a home for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
