    Jade | Community Health
“Working for the City of Perth has been a fantastic experience and a great start to my career journey in Western Australia as a recently moved Irish national. My role as Community Health officer involves working closely with food businesses to ensure high food safety standards and working closely with the public when investigating cases of food poisoning or other nuisances such as noise, waste, and odour pollution. I enjoy that two days are never the same in this role and involves a mixture of office working and site visits across the city. Working at the city has provided me with the opportunity to grow professionally and increase my skills to be a successful Community Health Officer. The Community Health team are extremely knowledgeable, supportive, and create an enjoyable, positive work environment.”

“A fresh graduate from university, kickstarting my career in HR; working as a People and Culture Officer has equipped me with invaluable experience to help me succeed in my corporate life. Supported by a fantastic team, at the forefront of People and Culture, I work with people organisation wide, from top line executives to integral officers in all teams. There is never a dull day and the work is extremely satisfying and rewarding, particularly when you are able to assist someone with a not so common query! HR has many avenues and I am grateful to gain exposure and develop in each area. Does this sound like you? HR could be the first step in your new career!”

    Allyson | Parks and Environment
“As the Coordinator for Parks and Environment for the City of Perth , I oversee the maintenance of public parks, natural areas, and green spaces to ensure they are safe, sustainable, and enjoyable for the community. My role involves coordinating environmental initiatives, managing teams, liaising with contractors and stakeholders, and implementing projects and programs for the City’s parks and reserves.

There is never a dull moment working in a capital city, and I love how diverse my day can be. One of the things I love most about working at the City of Perth is overseeing the maintenance of our heritage listed gardens. Caring for these spaces is an honour.”

“Every day is different; you meet people from all walks of life both local and from overseas. I love the opportunity to have conversations with our patrons and visitors to the library. To be able to provide and offer modern services whilst promoting our many events and beautiful architecture”
    Krystle

    Krystle | Horticulture
“As a Horticulturist with the City of Perth, my job is all about keeping our parks and public spaces looking their best. That includes everything from caring for turf, trees, and garden beds to maintaining playgrounds and other landscape features. I really enjoy the hands on work, being outdoors every day, and being part of a team that takes pride in creating beautiful spaces the whole community and visitors can enjoy.

My favourite aspect is the fact that I can feel immersed in nature, knowing I’m right in the middle of the City.”

    Hannah
Hannah | Transport and Urban Design
“As a graduate urban designer, I help shape how cities and neighbourhoods look, feel, and function. My work spans everything from streets, parks, and large public spaces to laneways, street furniture, and small-scale greening interventions. It’s about creating places that aren’t just practical, but also inviting, inclusive and memorable for those who use them. What I enjoy most is seeing how thoughtful design can influence our experiences - how we interact with a place and engage with those around us.”
    Merilyn

Merilyn | City of Perth Library
“My role allows me to enjoy my passion – people, learning and libraries.  Here are a few examples:

As a practicum/work experience supervisor, it’s a privilege to share the inner workings of how libraries are managed with enthusiastic students. Of course this is a team effort with all the library staff gracious with their time and mentoring. Another task is leading library tours – this could be with new City of Perth staff or community groups.  People are often amazed at the scope of library offerings!

On Mondays and Thursdays, the library offers free English classes to people of all language abilities and we have so much fun with the fabulous attendees. We often have classes with 40 people attending from over 16 various countries. To see the people connecting, networking and making catch-up plans is such a rewarding result.”
