As part of the City’s plan to activate the Northbridge Piazza, WAM recently moved into their new home at the community arts space on James Street.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City of Perth and WAM would work together to develop and deliver a program of cultural activities and events at the Northbridge Piazza to benefit the wider Western Australian community and support the local music and arts sector.

“Our aim is to establish Northbridge Piazza as a unique and authentic hub for West Australian contemporary music,” he said.

“In addition to growing and developing the local music industry, we can’t wait to see new communities and audiences utilising this space for arts and cultural activities, creating a new buzz about the area.”

He said continual activation at the Piazza would create a flow on effect, creating vibrancy and improving safety and amenity in the area.

WAM CEO Mike Harris said WAM was excited to be housed in the Northbridge Piazza building in a new activation space.

“Many thanks to the City of Perth for making the building available to WAM for the benefit of the Western Australian music industry,” he said.

“We are looking forward to working with the City to further activate the Piazza and build on that over several years.”

The first major activation of the Northbridge Piazza will occur in March as part of WAMFest presented by Act Belong Commit, showcasing some of Perth’s best emerging artists.

The Northbridge Piazza was established by the City of Perth in October 2009 as a multi-purpose community building for performances, exhibitions, festivals, sporting events and other cultural activities.
