The WECP fosters a global commitment to transitioning to a more sustainable energy future and includes 18 member cities across all continents.

The gathering gave representatives the opportunity to explore cutting-edge energy solutions, and share valuable knowledge on sustainable practices. The host City of Stavanger provided insights into the production, supply and direction of the green transition, with a focus on the way diverse energy sources merge into a larger, more sustainable energy ecosystem servicing the Stavanger region.

Ongoing since 1996, the AGMs have offered Mayors and officers from WECP cities the chance to come together to exchange knowledge and ideas, as well as promote successful initiatives and facilitate partnerships in the sustainable energy transition sector.

As the only Australian member city of the WECP, our City was represented at this year’s AGM by Councillor Catherine Lezer and City of Perth CEO Michelle Reynolds.

Councillor Lezer, representing the Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas, participated in the WECP Mayor’s Roundtable to discuss Net Zero challenges. Councillor Lezer highlighted Perth’s leadership in sustainability and energy transition, emphasizing our City’s commitment to emission reductions, green energy investment, as well as Western Australia’s important role in clean technology minerals and hydrogen energy.

The Roundtable also provided the chance to note our successful hosting of the WECP AGM in Perth last November, as well as our various community initiatives including the Residential Energy Upgrade program which is helping our City drive towards Net Zero.

The AGM also saw Mayor of Esbjerg, Denmark, Jesper Frost Rasmussen reappointed for a further 2-year term as WECP President.

The City thanks Stavanger for another successful WECP AGM. The collaborative partnerships between WECP member cities continues to drive collective action on climate resilience, sustainable urban development and global energy innovations to support the transition to a sustainable energy future.
