The City of Perth Council met on Tuesday 25 March. The following decisions were made:

40km/h speed zones

Council last night approved to commence community consultation on the proposed expansion of 40 km/h speed zones.

The City of Perth, in collaboration with Main Roads WA, has introduced 40 km/h speed zones across Central Perth, Northbridge and some neighbourhood town centres, since 2011.

The proposed expansion of the 40km/hr speed zones across the City aims to improve road safety, reduce the severity of crashes, create a more pedestrian friendly environment and improve amenity by reducing noise pollution.

The outcomes of the consultation and the recommended approach to be presented back to Council for approval at a future meeting.

Perth Events Plan 2025/26

The City of Perth’s 2025/26 Events Plan has been approved by Council.

The City will continue to deliver the major free-to-attend flagship events such as Christmas Lights Trail, New Years Eve, Australia Day and the family-friendly Elizabeth Quay Shows.

New elements include building on the Elizabeth Quay Shows by offering new creative programming and extending the shows to include November and March.

Following feedback from key stakeholders, including the City’s Elder’s Advisory Group, the Birak Concert will not be held on Australia Day. Instead, a new multicultural show – with a focus on First Nations culture – will take place at Elizabeth Quay in November.

Proposed Motorsport Street Circuit

Council voted to request that the City of Perth engage with State Government to represent East Perth residents who may be impacted by the proposed Burswood motorsport street circuit.

Residents are concerned the circuit will impact the environment – the wetlands around the East Perth river precinct – along with noise and an increase in vehicular and foot traffic if the proposal goes ahead.
