The consultation period will run until 30 April, giving the public the opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposal and share feedback on how the new speed zones should be implemented.

A of 40km/h speed limit already applies to parts of the the CBD and Northbridge, and the proposal is to extend this to all local roads.

City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor, Bruce Reynolds, said the proposed extension of 40km/h speed zones is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to road safety, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.

“Reducing speed limits on local roads decreases the severity of crashes and makes roads safer for everyone,” said Cr. Reynolds.

“Lower speeds not only improve safety but also offer additional  benefits, such as reducing noise pollution and creating more pedestrian-friendly spaces.

“We would love to hear from everyone who uses the roads in the City to have their say and voice their opinion about the proposed changes.”

The City worked with Main Roads WA in 2011 to introduce the 40km/h speed zones across Perth CBD and Northbridge.

Residents and road users are encouraged to complete the survey and share their views on Engage Perth: https://engage.perth.wa.gov.au/expansion-of-the-city-of-perth-40-km-h-speed-zone
