The historic Perth Town Hall was named Venue of the Year while the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail 2023 won the Best Community Event.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the awards were recognition of the hard work the Council and staff had put into to making Perth the events heart of Western Australia.
“The 2023 Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail was the biggest on record with half a million people - a 20 per cent increase - enjoying the event across the Christmas season compared to the year before,” Mr Zempilas said.
“The event has also been important for City businesses attracting patrons to our bars, cafes and restaurants as well as people taking the opportunity to do their Christmas shopping while enjoying the trail.
“Christmas truly does live in the City of Perth and no festive season is complete with a visit to enjoy our awarding-winning lights trail.”
Earlier this year, Rio Tinto signed on for another two years as principal partner of the iconic event. On committing to the partnership Rio Tinto Iron Ore Chief Executive Simon Trott said, “The Lights Trail embodies the spirit of the festive season, and we are proud to play a part in lighting up Perth’s city streets with joy and wonder.
“This is our third year partnering with the City of Perth to bring the community together and create memorable experiences for West Australians during the festive season.”
The City of Perth is also proud to welcome back Lotterywest as a Major Supporter of the event. Lotterywest has been fundamental in supporting the Trail for the last six years.
The Lord Mayor said the win for the Town Hall was a testament to the work and investment the City had put into the refurbishment of this historic landmark and critical events venue.
