Celebrate Perth’s vibrant cultural tapestry with music, dance and food on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November, as Elizabeth Quay transforms into a global stage of colour, community and creativity.
Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said the inaugural event is a vibrant new addition to Perth’s calendar, celebrating the diversity that makes the City such a special place.
“Perth is proudly home to people from all corners of the globe and this event will bring our community together to celebrate the many cultures, languages and traditions that shape our City,” Mr Reynolds said.
“From our First Nations heritage to the multicultural energy that defines our modern City, this event is a beautiful reflection of who we are today - a City that celebrates diversity and unity with pride.”
The two-night celebration will take audiences on a powerful journey through Western Australia’s cultural story - from its First Nations roots to the multicultural influences that continue to shape the City of Light.
“We’re pleased to welcome performances from 10 cultural groups representing Brazil, Burundi, China, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Mexico, South Sudan, Thailand and local Noongar communities, all performing on the iconic floating stage in the middle of Elizabeth Quay.”
“The celebrations will end on a high with a breathtaking finale performance featuring an original soundtrack by Noongar singer-songwriter Phil Walleystack, followed by a dazzling fireworks display over the Quay.
“And this couldn’t have been possible without our Major Supporter Lotterywest and Destination Partner DevelopmentWA, thank you for your ongoing support,” said the Lord Mayor.
Lotterywest Acting CEO Lorna Pritchard said the inaugural Multicultural Festival is the first of many Lotterywest supported community events happening across the City of Perth this summer.
“Lotterywest is proud to support community events, like the Multicultural Festival, that bring people together to celebrate the many wonderful contributions all Western Australians make to our great State,” Ms Pritchard said.
“The program has something for everyone, and it will light up an iconic part of our city, showcasing WA’s diverse communities.”
Visitors can also enjoy kids’ workshops, cultural activities and a wide selection of international food trucks. Event goers are encouraged to come hungry and wear traditional attire to embrace the spirit of cultural pride and celebration.
