Perth is a globally recognised energy capital, driving the next generation of clean and renewable energy. Backed by abundant resources, advanced technology and a highly skilled workforce, Western Australia offers strong long-term investment potential. The government has committed over $5.4 billion since 2017 to renewable energy and grid infrastructure, supporting ambitious net zero goals. The state also produces around 42% of the world’s lithium which is a critical resource for batteries and electric vehicles. While the mining, equipment, technology and services (METS) sector contributes $133 billion to the economy and employs more than 300,000 people. With 33.3% of Perth’s workforce employed in mining and professional sectors, and more than 30 hydrogen projects underway, Perth continues to strengthen its position as a leading global hub for energy innovation and investment.
Building on this strength, Western Australia is also a global leader in automation, energy and resources, combining cutting-edge robotics with world-scale production. The state is at the forefront of autonomous operations while accounting for 12% of global LNG exports (2024) and benefiting from faster, more cost-effective shipping to key Asian markets. Perth hosts a major concentration of global energy and resources headquarters and underpins a strong development pipeline, with $49 billion in committed projects and $122 billion under consideration, a total of $171 billion. Alongside its dominance in commodities, including 42% of global lithium, 37% of garnet, 36% of iron ore and 28% of rutile and 65 of Australia’s 130 critical minerals projects, this positions Perth as a globally competitive hub for advanced industry and future-focused technologies.
