Pigface Case Study
Located on Barrack Street the Pigface Bookstore is a new retail space providing opportunity to everyone passing by to call in and browse the curated collection of handpicked literature.
Located in a heritage listed Federation Romanesque building, the improvements and upgrades to the building have created an inviting space. To assist with the transformation the owners applied for a Business Improvement Grant and were awarded $20,000. This funding was used to install the new timber and glass façade, render the external walls and upgrade the exterior lighting including spotlighting the upper external façade highlighting the heritage features.
The Business Improvement Grants provide matched funding of between $5,000 and $20,000 to support businesses and property owners to carry out project works that enhance the public realm, create new experiences and encourage people to visit and stay longer.
The Pigface Bookstore owner Emily McLean encourages anyone thinking of applying, “to pick up the phone as the staff are really personable and incredibly helpful with the process.”
The Business Improvement Grant Program for 2025/26 is open until 28 February 2026 or until the budget is exhausted.
