The Shaping Perth City Centre: Towards 2036 and Beyond study took out top honours in the Landscape Planning Category. Developed in collaboration with internationally renowned urban strategy firm, Gehl, Towards 2036 builds on a 30-year partnership and previous studies that helped transform the city through people-focused urban design and major projects including Elizabeth Quay, Perth City Link and the ECU City Campus.
The revitalisation of Wolf Lane won the Small Projects category, in recognition of the creative use of lighting, captivating murals, bespoke seating and vertical greening and wildflowers to overcome space constraints and brighten the area.
The City’s urban play strategy and design guideline, Playful Perth, won the Research, Policy and Communications category, which recognises published works in research of practice that extend the knowledge base and advocacy of landscape architecture.
Developed in collaboration with urban design firm Playce, Playful Perth was designed to integrate fun, creativity and interactive play into everyday public spaces. It provides guidance on how play can be incorporated into the public realm across the City through art, social inclusion, recreation and traditional play and draws on leading global examples and approaches to create more playful, engaging and inclusive urban spaces.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said it was fantastic to see City projects being considered for national awards.
“These fantastic projects represent the broader work we are doing as a City to shape a vibrant, dynamic and people-focused capital city,” he said.
“The Towards 2036 study provides a clear direction for Central Perth’s future, putting people first and supporting a more liveable, prosperous and sustainable city.
“Playful Perth complements this, guiding how we plan and create engaging and exciting spaces across the City, giving kids, teenagers and adults more opportunities to play, connect and enjoy the outdoors.
“Wolf Lane is an incredible example of how we bring plans to life, creating welcoming spaces and unique experiences for everyone, whether you live locally, work, study or do business in the City, or are just visiting.”
