Vibrant displays of native plants and flowers are brightening City streets and malls, thanks to the City’s dedicated spring planting program, and now you’re invited to do the same at home!
Our Parks and Environment team has been hard at work filling planter boxes, gardens and median strips to create a stunning showcase that reflects all six Nyoongar seasons.
To highlight the impressive progress, over 4,400 native West Australian plants were added to the Thomas/Winthrop median strip in just the month of September!
Take a look at our latest video to see how we're celebrating spring with numerous plantings: Spring native plantings.
Our Parks team is passionate not only about highlighting the natural beauty of native wildlife but also inspiring residents and visitors to bring that beauty into their own gardens.
Western Australian natives are naturally waterwise, having adapted over millions of years to thrive in Australia’s warm, dry climate. Planting them in your garden will save water and benefit urban biodiversity by providing food and habitat for our native bees.
In the month of September, we used 25 different species in the Thomas/Winthrop median between Kings Park Rd and Rokeby Rd.
We’re making it easy for you to get started! Below are some waterwise species that are available to members of the public for sale:
- Kangaroo Paw | Anigozanthos ‘Bush Pearl’, Anigozanthos ‘Bush Ballad’, Anigozanthos ‘Big Red’, Anigozanthos ‘Yellow Gem’
