Perth is the only Australian member city of the WECP, which connects energy cities on all continents that are committed to building a more sustainable energy future. 
    
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City was proud to host the 2023 WECP AGM and welcome delegates from nine member cities across the world to the City of Light. 

“Perth is the epicentre of Western Australia’s world-renowned hub of energy resources, production and expertise, and a global hub for energy across the Indo Pacific,” Mr Zempilas said. 

“We are at the forefront of the next generation of clean energy production and have valuable knowledge, expertise and success to share with our global partners as we all work together to build more sustainable cities and a sustainable energy future across the globe. 

“As a founding member of the WECP, it is a privilege to host this year’s AGM and an important opportunity to showcase Perth's world leading energy expertise, hospitality and accommodation sectors and stunning natural surrounds to a world audience. 

“We have curated an incredible program to supplement the AGM which will showcase Perth’s leading technology in resources and energy on a global stage, as well as foster significant networking opportunities for our local businesses, academic institutions and industries.”

Over the three-day conference, global WECP member and observer cities will hear from renowned energy experts, as well as the Hon Madeleine King MP, Federal Minister for Resources, and the Hon Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Hydrogen Industry; Industrial relations. 

Some of the biggest players in the resources and energy industries are playing a key role in the conference, including, Mark Hatfield, Managing Director Chevron Australia, Meg O’Neill, CEO Woodside Energy, and Dr Mark Hutchinson, Global CEO Fortescue Energy. 

The Committee for Perth, BHP, the University of Western Australia, and CSIRO are also hosting delegates for site visits, tours, and panels sessions.

“Perth is undergoing a rapid and accelerated transformation in the energy sector and I look forward to exchanging plans, initiatives and energy transition developments with other WECP member cities in Perth this week,” Mr Zempilas concluded. 
 
The WECP conference runs from 1 to 3 November 2023.
