Since its completion in 1870, the Perth Town Hall has evolved to support a range of state and local government functions, as well as commercial uses. Today, the venue is managed by the City of Perth and continues to serve as a significant civic space, hosting ceremonies, events, performances and private functions.

The Perth Town Hall Undercroft and Foyer Redevelopment project will transform the undercroft into a more versatile and welcoming space, enhancing opportunities for events, community programming and visitor experiences.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds said Perth Town Hall is a treasured part of the City’s history and identity, and the redevelopment will ensure it continues to serve the community for generations to come.

“Perth Town Hall holds a special place in the hearts of our community as one of Perth’s most recognisable heritage landmarks,” Mr Reynolds said.

“This project is about respecting and preserving the building’s remarkable history while creating a renewed space that is accessible, functional and welcoming for the community, visitors and future generations.”

The City seeks community feedback on how the redeveloped space could be used and experienced. Community members are encouraged to share their ideas to help shape the future of this important civic landmark.

The project will support the City’s preparations for the 2029 Bicentenary celebrations, helping to create an inviting and vibrant space ahead of this significant milestone.

The project is also a key part of the City's vision for Barrack Street as the Cultural Connector at the heart of the city, supporting greater activation of the precinct and encouraging cultural activities to extend into the surrounding public realm. By strengthening the connection between Perth Town Hall and Barrack Street, the redevelopment will contribute to a more vibrant, engaging and connected city centre, in line with the City's Shaping Perth City Centre – Towards 2036 strategy.
