Local Government Inspector Tony Brown has appointed Carol Adams OAM the Local Government Monitor to the City of Perth. Ms Adams served on the Kwinana Council for 26 years, including 17 as Mayor.

Deputy Lord Mayor David Goncalves reaffirmed the City’s support for the review and commitment to working constructively and cooperatively with Ms Adams.

“This marks a new chapter in local government oversight. We welcome the Minister’s appointment of the Local Government Inspector and will work closely with Monitor Carol Adams to strengthen governance, transparency and public trust at the City of Perth,” Cr Goncalves said.

“Strengthening organisational health is a priority for the City of Perth so that residents and businesses can have full confidence in the ability for elected members to represent them in areas that affect their everyday lives.

“The City chose transparency and accountability. Lord Mayor Bruce Reynold’s referral to the Inspector reflects the need for independent guidance to maintain community confidence and drive continuous improvement.

“Independent oversight from Monitor Carol Adams will support stronger governance capability and administrative consistency, ensuring the City of Perth operates at the standard expected of Western Australia’s capital city.

“By listening, learning and acting on advice, we’re strengthening systems and ensuring the City of Perth is a model of accountable and effective local government.
