One of 13 shortlisted projects in the Analysis and Planning category, the Shaping Perth City Centre: Towards 2036 and Beyond study is a long-term framework to support growth and economic vitality.
The project is a collaboration between the City and internationally renowned urban strategy firm Gehl, building on a 30-year partnership and previous studies that helped transform the city through people-focused urban design and major projects including Elizabeth Quay, Perth City Link and the ECU City Campus.
Designed to integrate fun, creativity, and interactive play into everyday public spaces, Playful Perth is among 10 shortlisted projects in the Research, Policy and Communications category.
Developed in collaboration with Playce, Playful Perth provides guidance on how play can be incorporated into the public realm across the City. This draws on leading global examples and approaches to create more playful, engaging and inclusive urban spaces.
City of Perth Lord Mayor said it’s fantastic to see the City’s hard work receiving recognition on the national stage.
“Both the Towards 2036 study and Playful Perth are helping shape a vibrant, dynamic and people-focused capital city,” he said.
“Our partnership with Gehl provides a clear direction for Perth’s future, putting people first and supporting a more liveable, prosperous and sustainable city. Playful Perth complements this by guiding how we plan and create playful spaces across the City, giving kids, teenagers and adults more opportunities to play, connect and enjoy the outdoors.
