Concerto Apartments, which has 226 residential units and one non-residential unit, has made a big step towards being more eco-friendly.
Thanks to a $25,000 grant from The City of Perth’s Residential Energy Upgrade program, they've installed an 80kW solar panel system. This system will generate clean energy on-site, covering about 17% of the electricity used in shared spaces like lobbies, lifts, the pool, car parks, and several air-conditioned rooms. This upgrade aims to make the complex more sustainable.
A solar panel system of this scale is expected to reduce carbon emissions for residential buildings of a similar size by approximately 73 tonnes annually. This equates to a projected saving in energy costs of around around $27,700 each year.
The Residential Energy Upgrade Grant program supports body corporates in residential strata-titled buildings by funding projects that improve environmental performance, save resources, and move towards zero emissions. Eligible projects include upgrades to lighting, hot water systems, pumps, motors, lifts, air conditioning, and ventilation, as well as replacing gas hot water systems with electric and installing solar panels and batteries.
By taking advantage of the City’s grants and sponsorship programs, body corporates like Concerto apartments can significantly improve their building’s sustainability and efficiency, benefiting not only the environment but also residents.
Applications for the Residential Energy Upgrade Grant are open until 13 March 2025, or until funds run out. For further details on the application process and grant guidelines, visit the City of Perth’s Grants and Sponsorship web page.
The City of Perth is committed to being both resource efficient and climate conscious. This is one of several initiatives as part of the Sustainability strategy 2022-2023.
