Its size and location make it one of Perth's premier event venues. The extensive grassed area is semi-enclosed by mature trees, pathways and garden beds. Office workers spend their lunch breaks soaking up the sun and lounging on the numerous park benches, or for the more adventurous; playing a quick round of soccer or Frisbee. The gardens received an extensive upgrade in 2015 and now hosts several annual public events, most notably, Opera in the Park and the Birak Festival.
