Parks and Leisure (WA) have announced the winners of the 2021 WA Awards for Excellence.

The City of Perth is the proud winner of Best Playspace Award (>.5M) for the Moort-ak Waadiny / Wellington Square Playground (Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny).

Funded by Lotterywest for $4.37m, Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny is one of the biggest and best playgrounds in greater Perth, situated in the south-east corner of Moort-ak Waadiny / Wellington Square in East Perth.

The theme for the community playground is 'Landscape of Play' and the design is influenced by Aboriginal themes and Western Australian iconic landforms.

The park features a range of facilities including a skatepark, parkour activities, a flying fox, embankment slides, a pump track, waterplay, climbing towers, picnic and BBQ facilities.

Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said “We are delighted to win this prestigious award. A huge amount of work and collaboration has resulted in this fantastic playground and it is already a favourite for many families and young people in Perth.”

“This Award cements the cities vision of Perth as a great place to be – a safe, clean and an attractive hub for residents, visitors, families and friends to meet, celebrate, adventure and explore.”
