Haiku on Hay Competition 2024
The City of Perth Library launched its Inaugural Haiku Poetry Competition in July with over 215 entries received!
Partnering with WA Poets Inc, the competition was open to anyone to enter. Currently, the winning and commended entries are on display in the Library’s Ground Floor cabinets for all to enjoy until the end of September.

Full Terms and Conditions
The Haiku on Hay Poetry Competition is coordinated by the City of Perth Library, and proudly supported by WA Poets Inc.
- A maximum of one poem per poet can be submitted for judging.
- Entries must be previously unpublished and must not infringe on existing copyright.
- All entries will be judged anonymously.
- The judging panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- All entries must be submitted to library.events@cityofperth.wa.gov.au clearly stating the name of the poem, first name, surname of the poet and preferred name for announcement, should they be successful (eg. first initial, surname).
- Entrants will be notified of the prize winners by email once judging has concluded.
- Prizes will be awarded at the launch of the 2024 Perth Poetry Festival on Thursday 22 August at the State Library of WA Theatre. All prize winners will be invited to read their winning entry on stage.
- All prizewinners and finalists agree to have their entries with their preferred acknowledgement featured on the City of Perth’s and WA Poets’ promotional channels, as appropriate.
- City of Perth Staff, Contractors and Sub-contractors are not eligible to enter.
