• City of Perth rolls out new parking meters
  • Will be in operation from June 2024
  • New machines are cashless and ticketless

Hundreds of new parking meters are being installed across the City of Perth to make parking faster and more convenient.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the current meters had served the City well over the past 22 years, but it was time for an upgrade.

"The old meters certainly earned their keep but it's time to send them off for a happy retirement," Mr Zempilas said.

"The new solar-powered meters are modern and embrace cashless and ticketless technology - the right move for our smart and sustainable City of Light."

Works have begun to install the new easy-to-use parking meters along our city streets and in non-boom gate entry carparks and are expected to be fully operational from June 2024.

To use the machines, people will only need to enter their licence plate details and tap their credit or debit card to pay. Cash-accepting parking meters will still be available in City of Perth Parking carparks and near hospitals.

"The new meters are just one of the ways we are making parking in the city an easier, cheaper and better experience," Mr Zempilas said.

"We're giving choice and convenience back to the community including the recent introduction of the EasyPark payment app and our ongoing commitment to providing more than $6.7 million in free parking initiatives.

"It's never been easier to head into the city and there's never been more reasons to visit."

This comes on top of a recent Council approval to extend free nighttime parking for another 12 months.

The City's free CPP parking initiatives include:

  • Free parking at CPP at all carparks after 6pm
  • Three-hour free parking on weekends and public holidays at CPP Cultural Centre, Pier Street and His Majesty's Theatre.
