Hello again,
As the year rapidly draws to a close, I wanted to say thank you on behalf of the myself, my fellow Elected Members and the City of Perth administration for your support of the City of Perth in 2023.
It has been an exciting and fruitful year with so much achieved in the City, which will set us up to explode through the stratosphere in 2024.
A year of action for our community
For me a key highlight has been starting negotiations with the State Government on a primary school for East Perth, which will have a positive impact for our ratepayers. It is a key part of our Local Planning Strategy and I look forward to seeing the project progress in the new year.
A year of planting for the future
A year of bigger and better events
With New Year’s Eve fast approaching I’d be remiss not mention our reimagining of how we do New Year’s Eve celebrations in the City. 2023 saw our first family-friendly celebration at Elizabeth Quay which proved extremely popular. I’m thrilled that we’re doing it again. Thanks to our friend at Roy Hill, we’ll be ringing in the New Year with fireworks at Elizabeth Quay from 8pm. People who want to see fireworks at midnight can head into Northbridge.
Speaking of events, we were excited to get behind the inaugural Lightscape – powered by the City of Perth, in Kings Park. A massive 180,000 people flocked to Kings Park over the winter months to experience this incredible event and I’m pleased that we will be supporting it again in 2024. With new installations and some returning favourites, it will be an event not to be missed.
A year of promises fulfilled
... with the promise of more to come
Finally, it was enormously gratifying to be re-elected as the Lord Mayor of this great City in October. It is a privilege to serve the people of Perth and a role and responsibility I cherish. From my family to yours, our Council team and all of the team here at the City of Perth, I wish you a very merry Christmas and a hugely successful 2024.
