Clean Up Australia Day 2021 was big in the city!

A total of 11 events took place across the City of Perth for the 31st year of Clean Up Australia Day.

Community groups, city-based businesses and volunteers joined forces with City of Perth staff, including the Tzu Chi Foundation, Friends of Kinds Park Bushland, LAE International Education Agency and Swans Estuary Reserves Action Group.

Over 250 people worked together throughout the day to clean up the city’s six neighbourhoods including the city centre, Heirisson Island Foreshore, city parks and bushland. Over 3.5km of foreshore was cleaned and 20kg of rubbish collected on Heirisson Island alone.

City of Perth councillors and CEO Michelle Reynolds joined Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas early Sunday morning to clean the Murray Street Mall.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said that keeping our city’s 154km of roads, 404km of pathways and six neighbourhoods clean was a priority all year around.

“Clean Up Australia Day is a great motivation for us all to unite as a community and work together to clean up our city. However, keeping our city clean and beautiful for our residents, ratepayers, businesses and visitors is a focus for us every day and something we take very seriously.”
