Hello again,
It is both incredibly humbling and especially gratifying to be back for a second term as your Lord Mayor of our City of Perth. Thank you for helping me return to the role and responsibility I cherish.
ELECTION NIGHT
At Saturday night’s count, my re-election was confirmed when I received 3,264 votes or 57% of the total, up from 29% of the vote when I was first elected.
My share of the vote has almost doubled in three years - a jump of 28% or 1,409 votes more than I received in 2020.
Thank you to the ratepayers, residents and business owners of the City of Perth for their emphatic endorsement of my first term and the strong vote of support for our team.
We have restored trust, delivered real progress and provided a strong voice for the City. I took that to the electorate and the electorate has overwhelmingly supported that position.
The first election was special, the second feels even more significant - second time around you're judged on your record, your achievements, your leadership style - I've very proud to have received the overwhelming endorsement of the City electorate.
It's a great privilege to continue to lead our City. And I thank every elector and every voter for playing their part and being involved in the process.
CONGRATULATIONS NEW COUNCILLORS
I want to congratulate and thank my fellow Lord Mayoral candidates for a spirited campaign and wish them the best for the future and I take this opportunity to congratulate and welcome our new Councillors, Raj Doshi, David Goncalves and Bruce Reynolds.
In a huge nod to the relationship we enjoy with, and the significance of our neighbourhood groups, Bruce comes to us as co-chair of West Perth Local while David and Raj are the former co-chairs of the East Perth Community Group.
Bruce has, and continues to enjoy an extensive career in business including in marketing and hospitality, David has a background in policy advocacy and was co-chair of the City’s LGBTQIA+ Advisory Group and Raj, originally from England, has called Perth home since 2014. She has worked in finance and building management and is a mother of two.
My congratulations also to Councillor Catherine Lezer on her re-election. Catherine has been a valued member of our team since 2020 and has served as Chair of the City’s Audit and Risk Committee. Congratulations Catherine on securing another four years representing the City.
Together with Councillors Clyde Bevan, Brent Fleeton, Liam Gobbert and Viktor Ko, I’m confident we have an outstanding team in place ready to continue and build on our record of delivery for our community.
NEW DEPUTY LORD MAYOR
Congratulations to Councillor Clyde Bevan on his election as the City’s new Deputy Lord Mayor. Clyde has a wealth of experience in hospitality and community service and has been a superb advocate for our City.
With his wife Leslie by his side for much of it, Clyde spent over 40 years in the restaurant game and was a former Chair of Lotterywest and the Swan Valley Tourism Association. Clyde will be an excellent Deputy Lord Mayor for our City and I am excited to work with him.
After a busy week of swearing-in ceremonies and inductions for our new team members, it’s down to business. Together with Councillors Brent Fleeton, Liam Gobert and Viktor Ko we have a formidable team in place who are ready to leap into this incredibly exciting chapter in our City of Perth. We’re away!
Finally, a shout-out to my family for their incredible support and encouragement during my first term as Lord Mayor and over the recent election period. You’ve heard me say it, all our achievements – are team achievements, and to my Council team and my family team, a huge thank you.
