The Lord Mayor shares some exciting and important developments in our City.

It’s just over a month until Christmas and it is all go in your City of Perth.
On Friday I had the great pleasure to cut the ribbon to re-open Piccadilly Arcade. How good it is to see one of our City’s favourite arcades back in business.
I’d like to share some of the other exciting and important developments in our City.

I’d like to share some of the other exciting and important developments in our City.
City of Light
You will have seen the announcement over the weekend the City of Perth is reclaiming the title City of Light.
Astronaut John Glenn Gave us the name in February 1962 when he flew over Perth in his Friendship 7 spacecraft and looked down and saw the welcoming lights from the people below.
City of Light is as relevant and as emotive today as it was when John Glenn first gave us the name. It was strongly endorsed at my Brand Perth forum back in July.
You’ll hear more in the coming weeks about a weekend of events planned for February 19/20 next year to mark the 60th anniversary - and signal Perth’s intention to re-open from border restrictions with purpose.
“City of Light” represents everything Perth is and everything we want to be. Light is action, it’s safety, it’s ideas, it says there’s something going on here, it says shine a light on us, you can’t ignore us.
And it’s already, in a literal sense, something we’re very good at turning on, there’s our incredible natural daylight and there’s the Christmas Light Trail, Skyworks, Optus Stadium, the Kings Park Trees during the
Perth Festival and earlier this month we turned our City blue to say thank you to WA Police. No city lights up like Perth does.
So away we go. Perth – the City of Light.

Summer Crime Crackdown
I was delighted to see the State Government has been listening and yesterday announced a summer crime crackdown - exactly what we have been calling for.
It means more frontline police spending more time on our streets over the summer months.
That’s more mounted police, canine units and bike and walking patrols in around our major precincts of Perth, Northbridge, East Perth and West Perth and precisely what we have been advocating for on behalf of our ratepayers, business owners and operators, City workers and visitors.
Everyone has a right to feel safe when they come into our City. We all have a role to play but ultimately law and order is the domain of our Police. I thank them and the State Government for their response.
Christmas Lights Trail
Our award-winning Christmas Lights Trail is back and it was great to see so many families out on opening night on Friday and across the weekend
The City is sparkling so make sure you check out the 26 lighting installations until January 2 and take advantage of the special parking offers.
There’s $5 night-time parking at select car parks all week and three-hour free parking on weekends and public holidays at His Majesty’s, Pier Street and the Cultural Centre Car Parks.
Look out for Santa spreading Christmas cheer every Friday in the Murray Street Mall and every Sunday night at the front of Council House.
