Today the City of Perth welcomed 47 new citizens as part of a special Australian citizenship ceremony to celebrate Harmony Week, which takes place later in the month.
The City’s newest citizens came from 20 countries, including Nigeria, Portugal, India and Germany.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said marking national Harmony Week with a citizenship ceremony perfectly showcases the City of Light’s renowned vibrant and diverse communities.
“Today we celebrate all of our new Aussie citizens who have chosen to call Perth home. We’re so proud to welcome you into our community,” he said
“It is a special time to become an Australian in the lead up to national Harmony Week – a time of inclusiveness, respect and unity across Australia.
“All of our citizenship ceremonies are a reminder that cultural diversity is one of our City’s greatest assets and we are stronger because of it.”
In 2022, the City is expecting to host nine citizenship ceremonies, welcoming approximately 500 new citizens from around the world. All of the City of Perth’s ceremonies are live streamed so friends and family from around the world can tune in to see this special occasion.
