The City of Perth Lord Mayor, Councillors and administration have paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II who died overnight.
The Queen had a long association with the City having visited seven times during her 70-year reign, with the most recent visit in 2011 for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the Queen’s dedication to service and to the people of the Commonwealth was an inspiration.
“For 70 years, Queen Elizabeth led stoically through good times and in more challenging times and has been a constant throughout our lives.
“Her Majesty’s connection with Perth was strong, having visited here seven times during her reign.
“Council House was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 25 March 1963 and Elizabeth Quay was named in her honour.
“Her last days in Australia were in Perth attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. During that visit she was the special guest of the Great Aussie Barbecue, which saw 120,000 West Australians descend on the foreshore to catch a glimpse of her.”
Flags at all City of Perth sites are flying at half mast during the period of mourning and Council House and other City sites will light up in the royal purple to honour Her Majesty.
