The Safe Night Space, to be located at 247-249 James Street, will provide an emergency overnight space for women in crisis, including those seeking to escape domestic violent situations, allowing them to connect to vital support services.

The facility will operate from 7pm to 7am seven days a week for 30 months, allowing the State Government to finally complete their Common Ground facility.

The Council passed an amended motion that called for Ruah to provide an updated Operational Management Plan to be submitted and approved by the City of Perth, prior to operations commencing at the Safe Night Space.

That included the presence of one security personnel to always be positioned external to the building.  Ruah will also be required to engage with the residents on a regular basis to discuss any issues relating to the operation of the Safe Night Space.

Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said he was proud of the number of women that had been assisted through the previous Safe Night Space that the City of Perth had started in East Perth two and a half years ago and looked forward to working with Ruah at the new facility.
