Activated yesterday, the Lord Mayor Distress Relief Fund for Tropical Cyclone Seroja victims has already received $2,866,783 in donations.
LMDRF Presiding Chair and City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said that it’s heartening to see the influx of donations coming in to support the communities impacted by the devastating cyclone.
“Once again I am overwhelmed by the support of the Western Australian Community. Over the past24 hours, the fund has received $2 million from the State Government and $150,000 from Rio Tinto. This is in addition to the LMRDF’s initial $500,000 and numerous private donations.”
“Our state has experienced two disasters very close together and I call on Western Australians to once again dig deep. I can’t stress enough the devastation that has occurred in the Shire of Northampton(which includes Kalbarri) and surrounding local government areas, and how desperately these communities need our help.”
“The Fund will work with the affected local governments to ensure money is disbursed to victims of the cyclone as quickly as possible and that those that need help, receive it. While we can’t replace what people have lost, we can help ease their financial burden.”
“Together we make a real difference, every little bit helps. So, I urge you all to head to appealswa.org.au, call 9461 3886 or visit any Bankwest branch to donate,” LMDRF Presiding Chair Basil Zempilas concluded.
Donations to the LMDRF for the Tropical Cyclone Seroja Appeal can also be made via your local Containers for Change refund point using the scheme ID C10414519.
