Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said Ms Reynolds is an experienced executive with more than 20 years' experience as a senior public servant in the Western Australian State Government. 

Ms Reynolds is the current Executive Director of Rottnest Island Authority.  She has previously served as the CEO of WorkCover WA and has worked with the Department of Premier and Cabinet and State Emergency Management Committee.

Commissioner Hammond said Ms Reynolds’ appointment follows a rigorous national recruitment campaign.

“Michelle has an excellent track record as a high performing executive with experience at developing and delivering strategic and business plans,” he said.

“She has energy and a genuine passion for our city’s people, prosperity and potential.”

Commissioner Hammond said the appointment of the new CEO signalled an important milestone in the City’s final steps of corporate recovery with the establishment of a new high performing executive team now complete.

“The Commissioners look forward to working with Michelle who will lead the development of the City’s Corporate Business Plan, clearly linking our strategic direction with our operational capability,” he said.

“The time is right for a new CEO to join the City with corporate recovery well advanced and the election of Councillors and a Mayor set for October, replacing the Commissioners.”

Ms Reynolds said she was excited by the opportunity to work with the new City executive team and new elected Councillors to focus on rebuilding ratepayer and stakeholder trust in the City.

“The City of Perth has been going through a transition in the past two years and I look forward to finalising that work to ensure the City is the exemplar of Local Government,” she said.

“This is an exciting and challenging opportunity and I look forward to joining the City team.”

She said areas of focus for her would be to lead the City’s COVID-19 Relief and Rebound Plan, which included helping reinvigorate the central retail precinct.

With the recently recruited executive team Ms Reynolds will explore opportunities, develop and execute strategy, measure performance and lead informed debate on key strategic issues.

Ms Reynolds will replace current CEO Murray Jorgensen who joined the City in November 2018 to assist the Commissioners in the City’s corporate reform and recovery.  

Commissioner Hammond said Mr Jorgensen had been a tremendous asset to the City and had made significant positive reforms to the organisation in his 18 months as CEO.

Ms Reynolds will commence her new role on 4 August 2020.
