The City of Perth has paid tribute to more than 160 volunteers who have provided their time to support city services ahead of International Volunteer Day on Sunday 5 December.
City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said this was a brilliant effort, with some services heavily impacted by COVID-19 during 2021.
“Volunteers are invaluable to the City of Perth, its visitors and the local community and I would like to wholeheartedly thank them for their time, energy and incredible commitment this year,” Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said.
“Last month, we celebrated 20 years of service for the iCity Volunteer Program. We’re so proud of the 60 volunteers who collectively contribute up to 8000 hours throughout the year, providing local knowledge, reuniting families, and lending a helping hand.
“The Citiplace Community Centre on Wellington Street is in its 32nd year of operation and the contribution that our volunteers make there is also amazing.
“Thank you also to the City of Perth’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Group, the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Group and the Culture and Arts Advisory Group for their time. Their dedication has been instrumental in the development of inclusive events, projects and plans and to help promote universal access and inclusion.”
Joyce Pearson is a dedicated volunteer and has been greeting visitors at the City of Perth’s Citiplace Community Centre since July last year.
“After my time taking care of my small grandchildren while their parents worked came to an end, I decided that I would like to help the community in some way so I looked at the many volunteering positions that were out there,” Joyce said.
“When our visitors leave they are in great spirits and come back to the Centre regularly. I have never experienced such camaraderie between staff, volunteers and visitors. There is a wonderful feeling of belonging and being truly valued as a volunteer.”
