Tourism

Welcome to Perth – an amazing tourism destination, where natural beauty, Aboriginal and European culture come together to create an unparalleled experience. Perth's picturesque location on the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) offers incredible opportunities for nature tourism enthusiasts.

With major capital developments and hospitality inventory, Perth has undergone a once in a 100-year transformation, attracting major international hotels and hundreds of new food and beverage outlets. The city's vibrant creative community and outstanding venues offer a world-class experience – from exhibitions to live music performances, creative festivals, and sporting events.

Tourism plays a critical role in Australia's economic future and is expected to grow faster than global GDP over the next 10 to 20 years. Perth contributes significantly to the Western Australian economy, providing a positive impact on transport, accommodation, retail, food and beverage, tours and experiences.

Positioned on the west coast of Australia, Perth is renowned as the gateway to Australia from Europe and Asia, offering visitors the perfect blend of vibrant city life and stunning natural landscapes.

Perth has received international recognition from renowned media houses, including Lonely Planet, National Geographic, CNN, the New York Times, and Forbes. Adding to its appeal, the city offers pristine beaches, world-class wineries, and spectacular national parks, all within a 30-minute drive from the city center. With eight hours of average daily sunshine year-round, Perth has earned its title as Australia's sunniest capital.

With a robust tourism ecosystem, Perth offers unparalleled support for tourism operators. The City of Perth works closely with industry associations such as Tourism WA, Tourism Council WA, Australian Hotels Association WA, and the WA Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC), to provide representation, networking opportunities, and programs for business and workforce development.  Additionally, there is a wide range of industry events scheduled throughout the year, such as the WA Tourism Awards and the annual WA Tourism Conference.

At the City of Perth, we are dedicated to fostering an environment that celebrates tourism. Our mission is to create opportunities for tourism operators to thrive and grow, ultimately leading to exceptional experiences for our visitors.

One shining example of our commitment to growing authentic Aboriginal tourism experiences is our partnership with the WAITOC, an initiative to grow authentic Aboriginal tourism products and experiences via a workforce development program for Aboriginal tourism businesses, and with the WA Museum Boola Bardip and Tourism WA to produce Nyumbi, a weekly cultural event in the heart of the city.
