Under the Major Events and Festivals category, the award recognises events that enhance the awareness and appeal of a destination, as well as creating economic impact, increased visitation and community involvement.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the Christmas Lights Trail was the highlight of the calendar year for many Western Australians.

“The City of Perth’s annual Christmas Lights Trail is one of the largest events in the City’s calendar, bringing one in five Perth metropolitan residents into the CBD through November to January. It is a great opportunity for local families to visit and spend some time exploring unique areas of the city,” he said.

“We’re proud to host such a magnificent event year-on-year, helping to boost the local economy with increased foot traffic to nearby shops, restaurants and bars throughout the city centre.

“Congratulations to the City of Perth team on such a well-deserved award. We’re looking forward to hosting this year’s Christmas Lights Trail from this Friday 19 November.”

The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards recognises businesses, individuals and destinations for their commitment to excellence.

As a gold medallist, the City of Perth will advance to represent Western Australia at the national Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
