About this venue

The Level 3 Terrace is currently unavailable for hire due to the Stone Cladding Remediation Project. The Programs and Venues Team is eager to assist you with any inquiries regarding availability for Summer 2025.

The Terrace is a unique event space overlooking Perth’s impressive skyline and on to the peaceful Derbarl Yerrigan/Swan River.

Part of the award-winning City of Perth Library, it’s the perfect setting for hosting corporate sundowners, a stylish cocktail function, after- conference gathering and networking, or even a wedding.

The venue offers flexible space for social functions of up to 150 people in a standing, cocktail style set-up, and outdoor furniture is provided that accommodates up to 42 people seated.

A finishing kitchen, next to the lifts, is available should catering be required for your function. Universal access toilet facilities are also located on this level.

Provide your own catering, alcohol and music, and there’s the added convenience of a small finishing kitchen located nearby to ensure you can look after your colleagues, clients and guests.

The Library’s stunning architecture sets it apart within the historic and vibrant Cathedral Square precinct of its location. Inside, the welcoming interiors feature cleverly designed light and shadow effects, creating a breathtaking atmosphere that extends to the expansive Terrace.

Adjacent to this venue, the Library’s Auditorium is available for hire as a conference, seminar or presentation space, equipped with all modern AV and technological devices, including live streaming capabilities. This makes it perfect for your corporate meeting or training workshops, prior to a reception under the stars on The Terrace.

Accessibility is a priority, with toilets designed for universal access located on the same level. There’s parking nearby and easy access to public transport for local and visiting attendees.

The hourly rate for a Terrace booking is $200.00 per hour, 4 hour minimum plus security fees.

Rules

  • The Terrace is available to be booked after hours (after 6pm Monday to Friday, after 4pm on Saturday).
  • Security is required for all after hours hire and for Terrace bookings a minimum of 2 security guards are required. Security must be arranged and approved by the City of Perth Library.
  • A minimum booking of 3 hours is required for the Auditorium and 4 hours for the Terrace.
  • A deposit of $200 will be charged to secure your booking for either space.
  • All prices include GST and are subject to change.
  • The Not-for-Profit (NFP) rate is calculated at 20% off the standard hire rate.
  • Eligibility for the NFP rate is determined at the point of booking and is applied at the City of Perth Library’s discretion.
  • When requesting a quotation please allow time for setup (bump in), and pack down and clean-up (bump out). As a guide, most events involving food and drink will require 1 hour for setup and 1 hour for clean-up.
  • If access to the building is required before Library opening hours, an early access fee will be charged.
  • There will be a 15 minute grace period with bump in and bump out, after which time the hirer will be charged for an additional half hour.

Frequently asked questions about this venue

  • Why do I have to pay for security?
    For any function that occurs outside of the Library’s normal opening hours, the presence of the City’s licensed security guards is required. The cost for security is on-charged to hirers and quoted with the hire fees. The security guard is essential to provide access when entering and exiting the building and for the safety of all guests.
  • Can I move the furniture on the Terrace?
    The furniture on the Terrace can be moved by Library staff only. Some of the smaller pieces of furniture can be removed for a function, but the large wooden tables and benches can only be move around on the Terrace.
  • Why can’t I start my event before the Library closes?
    The City of Perth Library is first and foremost a community facility with public access, which includes the Terrace area. For this reason we are only able to provide this space for private hire after the Library is closed to the public.
  • Do you provide catering? Can I self-cater?
    The City of Perth Library does not provide catering, hirers must organise that independently. Self-catering is permitted to a degree, but hirers will be asked to review food handling information and to complete a food safety plan. The City of Perth Library does not have a Liquor Licence but limited service of alcohol is permitted under the considerations of the Liquor Control Act 1988.
  • Why do I need to have a site visit?
    The Library is an architectural delight as well as a public building, which means that there are some peculiarities with the building which may impact on event planning. We strongly recommend potential hirers come in for a site visit so that we can discuss these details in person and answer any questions. We find that this is much easier to do in person than by email.
