Commissioners for the City of Perth have approved a $15,000 cash sponsorship of the event, to be held in the Supreme Court Gardens on Sunday, 8 July 2018.

Chair of Commissioners Eric Lumsden said the sponsorship of the opening ceremony is important for the City and the community.

“The City has a long history of carrying out projects and activities that recognise Whadjuk Nyoongar history and culture,” Mr Lumsden said.

“2018 will mark the 11th year of the event, having first been held in Perth in 2007, and we look forward to continuing this tradition.

“NAIDOC Week strongly aligns with the City of Perth’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and supporting this project is an important step towards a place of reconciliation, and celebrating the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to Australian society.”

NAIDOC Week takes place from Sunday, 8 July to Saturday, 15 July 2018.
