In support of local traders, business operators and land owners, the City administers the Business Improvement Grant program annually, which aims to work with the private sector to stimulate and encourage diverse inner-city commerce.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said grants have been awarded to eight businesses that will improve precinct amenity, stimulate business activity, and extend the City’s offering of experiences that contribute to the appeal of the City as a place to live, work and play.

“Recipients will allocate the grants towards new shop fit-outs, upgrading facades and lighting, and preparing unique alfresco areas,” Commissioner Lumsden said.

“It’s a positive result that sees the City play its role in creating a diverse, welcoming atmosphere befitting of a capital city.”

Under a separate grant funding program, mental health, homelessness and water safety programs have also been recognised in the City’s latest round of Community Enhancement Grants.

Commissioners have approved almost $33,000 to five service providers that engage the city’s community through developing programs and strategic initiatives.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said applications are assessed and grants awarded to programs that demonstrate evidence of community need.

“Applicants can apply for up to $10,000 for a new program or expansion of an existing program, and it’s good to see the diversity of services that have received funding in 2018/19.”
