Access and Inclusion Advisory Group Call for nominations - February 2024

The City of Perth is seeking twelve to fifteen members to be appointed to the Access and Inclusion Advisory Group (the AIAG) for a two-year term.

The AIAG has provided advice to the City of Perth since 1998 on a broad range of areas including events and public infrastructure. 

As an engagement forum on matters relating to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the group has particular focus on the City of Perth’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan and associated initiatives.

The objectives of the Access and Inclusion Advisory Group include:

  • Open discussion and engagement regarding relevant City initiatives and activities;
  • Monitoring progress against the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan; and
  • Providing advice on proposed ideas, programs, services and activities within the City’s role and sphere of influence.

Nominations for the AIAG closed on 12 February 2024.

 

Frequently asked questions

  • How are the Access and Inclusion Advisory Group members selected?

    The City will assess individual nomination forms against the following criteria. 

    Criteria 1
    The nominee must fulfill at least one of the following to demonstrate connection to the City of Perth

    • A resident of the City of Perth
    • Represents an organisation that provides disability access and inclusion services to residents, businesses and/or visitors to the City of Perth.
    • Can adequately demonstrate another form of connection to the City of Perth

    Criteria 2
    The nominee must fulfill at least one of the following:

    • Is a person who lives with disability
    • Is a person who cares for a person/people with disability (e.g. family member/friend)
    • Supports people with disability on a professional level (e.g. clients/as a staff member at an advocacy organisation)

    Criteria 3
    The nominee must provide information on their:

    • Knowledge or lived experience in relation to improving equity, diversity and inclusion.
    • What community groups, boards or organisations they have worked with in relation to improving equity, diversity and inclusion

    Criteria 4
    The nominees must:

    • Agree to abide by the Access and Inclusion Terms of Reference and the Advisory Group Member Handbook.
    • Be available to attend meeting times of: Tuesdays 11am – 1pm (meetings held four times a year).

    Criteria 5
    The City will also consider the group composition in relation to following:

    • Optimising the level of diversity within the Advisory Group.
    • Ensuring that at least 50% of the Advisory Group members are City of Perth residents.
    • One position is reserved for a representative from the Department of Communities (previously known as the Disability Services Commission).
    • One position is reserved for a representative from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA.

    Should further information be required, the City may contact the applicant to request this information.

    The final decision of the membership of the group will be made by the City of Perth’s Chief Executive Officer.

  • When and where to the Access and Inclusion Advisory Group meet?

    The group meets four times a year on Tuesdays at 11am – 1pm at Council House, 27 St Georges Terrace Perth. The tentative dates for 2024 are:

    • 12 March
    • 21 May
    • 20 August
    • 19 November
  • How will I know if my nomination is successful?
    The City will contact all nominees to advise of the outcome within two weeks of the closing date.
