Hay St Two Way conversion - Bennett St to Victoria Ave - Sep 2024 - 23

Two-Way Streets Program

The City of Perth’s Two-Way Streets Program is reshaping the city’s public spaces, that improves the pedestrian’s experience and increases vibrancy community places. The program ensures pedestrians and place making are prioritised over cars by creating destinations, not through routes.

Conversion from one-way to two gives people greater choice about how they travel around and access the City.

The program will allow a more accessible CAT bus network offering improved connectivity to get around our city.

Since the program started in the early 2000s, several City streets have been converted to two-way including William Street, Barrack Street and Murray Street.

Hay Street Two-Way

Now the City of Perth is converting Hay Street to a two-way street, to make it easier for you to get around your city.

The new two-way design means better traffic flow, improved parking bay access and pram ramps, more street trees and better street lighting.

The works will take place in stages between Bennett Street and Victoria Avenue including Victoria Avenue / Adelaide Terrace intersection, between May 2024 and mid-2025.

The City of Perth will work to minimise disruption to local businesses, residents and visitors during each stage of the project.

The Hay Street upgrade is the next step in our Two-Way Street Program which has seen the successful conversion of many streets across the city to two-way including William Street, Beaufort Street and Barrack Street.
