East Perth community sport and recreation hub
We are shaping a vision for a vibrant East Perth community sport and recreation hub; and we want your help!
The City plans to create an accessible hub in East Perth by consolidating sports and community facilities. This efficient use of land and resources will result in a new urban precinct with diverse uses, taking advantage of river views and enhancing the area for residents and visitors. -
Towards 2036
Towards 2036 builds upon the Public Spaces and Public Life studies conducted in 1994 and 2009 by renowned Danish architect Jan Gehl. The 1994 study analysed and provided recommendations for the city centre, assessing public spaces and life based on a survey from January 1993.

Russell Square Revitalisation
As identified in the City’s Open Space Plan, Russell Square was deemed high priority for enhancement. It has been thirty years since the park’s amenities and usage were last assessed. We are developing a draft concept plan with key improvements to enhance the quality and usability of Russell Square.
This draft plan will help us work with the community to shape a final concept plan. -
Urban Forest Plan
An urban forest comprises green spaces, trees, and vegetation in urban areas, offering social, environmental, and economic benefits that enhance urban life.
The City of Perth adopted its Urban Forest Plan following a period of public consultation.
Part of Stage 3 has seen the development of a Micro Greening Guide to help introduce small scale planting and greening in privately owned spaces across the city.

East Perth primary school
The City of Perth has advocated for a city primary school for many years.
The State Government made an approach to us in May 2023 to use approximately two thirds of the City-owned land in Nelson Cres, East Perth for a primary school.

Perth Concert Hall redevelopment
The City of Light’s iconic home of music and entertainment is being redeveloped as part of the $1.7 billion Perth City Deal, with $150.3 million being invested by the Australian and State Governments, and the City of Perth. The investment will preserve the renowned acoustics, while enhancing the venue in a range of ways.

Perth Cultural Centre rejuvenation
Established as the heart of the WA’s arts and culture scene, the Perth Cultural Centre is being rejuvenated as part of the $1.7 billion Perth City Deal, with $55 million allocated by the Australian and State Governments. The investment will revitalise the precinct and public realm to create vibrant, safe and attractive spaces connecting Perth’s cultural institutions.

Aboriginal Cultural Centre
The Western Australian Government has begun plans for an Aboriginal Cultural Centre, to be developed on a culturally significant location by the Derbarl Yerrigan (the Whadjuk Nyoongar name for the Swan River). An initial $102 million has been committed by the State and Federal governments.
The development will be a central place of significance, helping to empower Aboriginal people to share their histories and demonstrate their culture.
