For the next 12 months, free parking will be available on Hay Street between Outram and Havelock Streets, with fee payable bays converted to no fee payable bays.

A free parking trial in Claisebrook has been in place since July and on Hay Street, East Perth since August.

“We are focused on the need to support high street retail precincts within city neighbourhoods and to increase patronage and retail activity in the three areas,” Commissioner Andrew Hammond said.

“The trials aim to additionally improve community activation and safety perceptions in each neighbourhood precinct.”

The City continues to receive positive feedback from businesses in Claisebrook and in East Perth ahead of the West Perth launch.

“I think the free parking trial is a great idea - it encourages more customers that are not within walking distance of my business to visit, thus bringing more customers into the West Perth area,” Eat Drink Raw Owner May Tan said.

“I definitely appreciate the efforts the City has gone through to offer this trial. It's really gracious of the City of Perth and so helpful to businesses down this end of town,” Urban Om Studio Manager Larissa Fernandez said of the Hay Street, East Perth trial.

The West Perth free parking trial will provide valuable feedback on the impact of parking in key neighbourhoods of the City of Perth.

The City is currently working with the retail sector to identify key locations to progress three-hour free parking in the CBD on weekends and public holidays. Further information will be announced in the coming months.
