The City of Perth is looking to boost its cycling infrastructure in line with its Cycle Plan Implementation Program 2016 – 2021.
Council has approved a concept design for a new cycling facility that would directly connect Milligan Street to Mounts Bay Road.
Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said Spring Street and Mount Street provide an important north-south link for cyclists, by connecting Mounts Bay Road and the Narrows Bridge with Milligan Street and the city centre.
“Currently there are no dedicated facilities for cyclists along most of the route, and added infrastructure would be a welcome addition to the cycling corridor into the city,” Commissioner Lumsden said.
“The design includes on road cycle lanes, head-start boxes and the removal of nine on-street parking bays to facilitate the cycle lanes.”
With the concept plan now endorsed, the City will collaborate with Main Roads WA, the Department of Transport, land owners and businesses notifying them on the proposal and inviting feedback.
