Mr Jorgensen was selected for the role unanimously, by the three Commissioners.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said Mr Jorgensen has been appointed on a 9-month contract.

“It was important to Commissioners the successful candidate was sourced externally to bring clear thinking and an independent approach to the role, and the ability to deliver exceptional leadership,” Commissioner Lumsden said.

“Mr Jorgensen has extensive experience in Local Government and the private sector, and will be an asset to the City with his emphasis on leadership and strategy and a focus on genuine sustainable outcomes for the community, business and City staff alike,” Commissioner Lumsden added. 

Mr Jorgensen will begin his duties on Monday 19 November 2018.

Murray Jorgensen is a Justice of the Peace (JP), has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM), is a former Fellow of the Local Government Managers Association, a former member of Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has been awarded the Centenary Medal for Service to Local Government.

He has extensive experience in Local Government and the private sector including consulting to WALGA and over 40 City, Town and Shire Councils.

Mr Jorgensen has been CEO of the Town of Albany and Shire Clerk of Shire of Manjimup in addition he has also been a Commissioner of the City of Cockburn during a period of elected member suspension from 1999-2001.
