Reverse vending machine set to boost recycling in the City of Perth
The City of Perth has added a reverse vending machine (RVM), as part of its drive to increase recycling in the City.
A spin on the traditional vending machine, customers can now place their 10c drinks containers into the machine at 68 Roe Street in the CPP carpark and automatically get a 10c refund - making it even easier to recycle in the City.
The machine, which is part of the Containers for Change recycling program is cash-free. To get the 10-cent refund, customers need to sign up for a
Containers for Change scheme ID, which allows the refund to be paid directly into their bank account, or a nominated charity or community group.
Following the success of the City of Perth’s Aberdeen Street refund point, City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said the City recognised the need for more locations for the people of Perth to take part in the Containers for Change scheme.
“We’re excited to see the new machine up and running in Roe Street, a handy location for commuters or people coming into enjoy the City.
“It’s a fast and easy way for the people of Perth to keep our City looking beautiful and reap the rewards,” he said.
“Returning eligible containers for refund provides community incentive, lowers rates of street litter and increases recycling across the City.
“This is one more step towards a cleaner, greener City of Perth.”
In October, the City of Perth’s flagship refund point at 8 Aberdeen St celebrated its one-year anniversary. During its first year the refund point processed an impressive 5,561,538 containers, which equated to $556,153 in refunds going back into the community.
All containers marked with the "10c refund" branding can be returned to any of
Perth’s refund points.
