Concerto apartments

Concerto is a 36-storey apartment complex in the City of Perth, comprising 226 apartments and a range of shared facilities: including a lobby, residents' lounge, dining room, games room, cinema, an outdoor swimming pool and a gym.

What they did

In 2024, having already made the switch to energy-efficient LED lighting across the common area, residents decided to get even smarter about their energy use. Through support via the City’s Residential Sustainability Assessment Grant, the Owners of Concerto commissioned an energy audit to better understand their electricity and water consumption, and discover ways to save on energy bills.

A key initiative was to install an 80kW solar system to power the building's common areas. The Owners applied and were successful in receiving matched funding for the solar installation through the City of Perth Residential Energy Upgrade grant. The building proceeded with the project as the payback period was just over 2 years with projected annual savings of $27,600.

Results

Even with a significant increase in power costs shortly after installation, the solar panels have effectively covered that extra cost, putting the building in a financially better position

The Owners of Concerto apartments are pleased with the decision to install solar. Looking ahead, they're considering replacing their gas hot water system with an electric system and continuing to make sustainable choices for their building in to the future.
