Everyone wants to feel and be safe. Safety is everyone’s responsibility and there are many things that you can do to increase your own safety, whether you are at home or out in the community.

This pocket sized guide provides information on night transport and having a safe night out.
It includes information on public transport and how to obtain help and information. A central city map shows locations of services including public transport, toilets and supervised taxi ranks.
Public Transport
Perth has a very safe public transport system to transport you into and out of the city. For more information on a safe journey on buses, trains and ferries please visit the Transperth website.
The safety and security of passengers and staff is a key priority for Transperth. Please watch this video to see how Transperth are keeping you safe, and for tips on how you can take an active role in your own safety.
Taxi safety
Taxis are a convenient way to get around the city. There are many taxi ranks across the CBD and in Northbridge, including two supervised taxi ranks which operate on Friday and Saturday nights. The supervised ranks are located on Milligan Street Northbridge and William Street Perth.

Responsible Drinking Commercials
A public education campaign designed to confront anti-social behaviour and change people’s attitudes about alcohol consumption is underway in Northbridge. The campaign is a collaborative project between the City of Perth, the Business Improvement Group of Northbridge (Big N) and the Central Institute of Technology.

The Gathering DVD
The Gathering is an education DVD which focuses on underage binge drinking and its consequences. This hard hitting resource is aimed at stimulating discussion and was produced by the City of Melville and sponsored by the City of Perth. View more information here.

The safety of international students is a concern for the community and students.

Handbag Safety
A new handbag safety resource has been developed by the WA Police to remind people to protect their bags and the valuable property they contain.
This resource is particularly targeted at females and contains tips and advice on how to prevent them being a victim of handbag theft when shopping, using public transport, eating out and using ATMS.
Back Pack Safe
Back Pack Safe is a joint project between the City of Perth, Town of Vincent and WA Police. It was developed to raise travellers' awareness of their own safety and is an easy reference if they need help
If you are visiting Perth as a back packer, there are many things you can do to help your visit be a safe and enjoyable experience. Download the Back Pack Safe Wallet Guide and use the following tips to help you:
- Whenever possible, travel with a friend or in a group.
- Avoid taking shortcuts through deserted areas.
- Report crime to Police.
- Don't carry excess amounts of cash.
- Use the personal security lockers available at the hostel.
- Mark all your valuables with identification.
- If you are hiring or borrowing a vehicle, keep it locked and avoid leaving valuables inside.
- Do not give lifts to hitch-hikers or strangers.
- When you go 'pubbing and clubbing', do not leave your drink or valuables unattended.
