William Street (from Wellington Street to Murray Street)
The William Street Enhancement is part of an on-going program of street improvements by the City of Perth to make the capital city more pedestrian friendly and ultimately more liveable and sustainable.
William Street is one of the major north-south pedestrian links between the "heart" of the city and Northbridge and the Perth Foreshore and with the opening of the Underground train station and 140William and the construction of Raine Square pedestrian traffic is only expected to increase.
Work will be undertaken in two stages. Stage one - the installation of kerbing and footpaths on the eastern side of William Street (from Wellington Street to Murray Street) - is complete. Stage two started on Thursday 15 March 2012 and will be completed by mid May 2012. The work includes kerb and footpath replacement on the western side, installation of a taxi rank on the eastern side and road resurfacing. This work is being undertaken concurrently with the tunnel works by the developers of Raine Square.
Street lighting works on the eastern side of William Street commenced in mid-February 2012 and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2012. Street lighting works on the western side will commence in May 2012 after the civil (stage two) works have been completed.
