Holding an Event

The City of Perth presents and hosts many exciting and enjoyable events throughout the year, in a variety of locations.

Major events include Skyworks, the City to Surf Fun Run, the Buddha Birthday Festival, French Rendez-vous, the Perth Fashion Festival and Targa West.
Functions and Exhibitions are held regularly in the Perth Town Hall, and a range of events such as parades or community activities are held on parks, reserves or in public spaces such as Forrest Place or the Murray Street Mall.

How to apply to hold an event

All events require approval and any required licences, and depending on the location, are subject to different application procedures.

 Use of a Council Reserve or Streets within the City of Perth
 Some Council Reserves and Streets are available for the purpose of:
  • marches
  • parades
  • rallies or assemblies
  • activities obstructing the road, footpath or verge (including road excavations and camera shoots)
  • major and significant events

 The Malls Precinct
 Activities that can take place in the Malls Precinct include: 
  • Events - major events, community activities and promotions,
  • Other – sampling, roving, raffles and spruiking (spruiking available to traders in the malls only).

The areas in the Malls Precinct that can be booked to hold an activity are:

  • Forrest Place - one event site using the area bounded by the steps.
  • Murray Street Mall - four event sites: Kiosk event site, Lift Tower event site, Myer event site, Designated site exclusively for raffles.
  • Hay Street Mall - available for roving activities only.
  • Railway Concourse - Padbury Walk, between Myer and the City central railway station, available for roving activities only.
  • Other - activities that do not use a designated event site, such as roving and spruiking still require approval from City of Perth Marketing.

 Facilities available for booking are:
  • Northbridge Piazza - Event Area (Open Space)
  • Northbridge Piazza - Super Screen
  • Northbridge Piazza - Community Building
